Join Us! ACRL-OR Reception at Riverbend Brewing on April 20, 5-7pm

ACRL-OR invites OLA Conference attendees and library folk in the Bend area to its annual pre-conference Wednesday evening reception, this year at Riverbend Brewing from 5-7 p.m.

We love getting to know our library colleagues while sampling local fare (provided) and beverages/brews (cash bar). Drop in for a bit or a bite!

Riverbend Brewing is an 8-minute walk from the Riverhouse at the corner of Hwy 97 and Division St (2650 NE Division Street Bend, OR), across the road from the river. Depending on where you are starting your Wednesday evening activities, you might consider taking the conference shuttle to get close (it does not stop at Riverbend Brewing but does stop at the conference venue).

See you at the reception!

ACRL-OR President, 2015-2016

OLA 2016: Schedules & Carpooling

*Reposted from libs-or listserv.*

Twenty days till the 2016 OLA Conference and things are ramping up! Quick announcements:

1. There have been schedule changes and additions over at http://orlib16.sched.org/ — check out the unit business meetings (open to anyone!) and if you haven’t yet, get yourself signed up with Sched so you can make your own personal schedule (note: you can create an account with an email address, you don’t have to use Facebook at all).

2. We have a carpool signup! It’s up to you to reach out to a potential driver / rider.  And on the way to Bend you can share your stories with each other! (see what I did there?)

3. Special shout-out to our awesome sponsors who have made this conference possible.

In the coming weeks we’ll have tips for attendees, tips for presenters, and more tips about Bend.

Stay tuned and we’ll see you soon!

2016 OLA Conference: An Abundance of Sessions for Academic Librarians/Library Staff

In addition to spending some time in beautiful Bend, there are lots of other great reasons this year why academic librarians/library staff should consider attending next month’s 2016 OLA Annual Conference, April 20-22. Check out the more than 30 academic-focused sessions at this year’s conference! On Wednesday, there are 5 pre-conferences of interest; on Thursday, there are 14 sessions of interest; and on Friday there are 16 session of interest. Wow! The most difficult part will be choosing which of the concurrent sessions of interest to attend. What a great problem to have!

And for those of you that make the trip to Bend, make sure you block out time on your conference calendar for the ACRL-OR Reception on Wednesday, April 20, 5:00pm – 7:00pm. We love getting to spend time with our academic colleagues at the OLA Conference. Details about the reception location will be forthcoming on this site and Libs-Or.

See you in Bend!

Final call for OLA Conference Proposals – Due September 30

A quick reminder — there are still a few days left to send in your pitch for a conference session or a pre-conference for the OLA 2016 Conference in Bend! The conference itself will be April 20 – 22, 2016, but the deadline for proposals is September 30th! (Poster proposals will be coming up in November.)

See below for all the details and links for proposal submissions.

Tell Your Story

The Oregon Library Association Conference Committee invites you to submit program and pre-conference proposals for the 2016 Conference, April 20-22 at the Riverhouse Hotel in Bend.

Our theme this year is Tell Your Story.

“One of my favorite storytime books is Wait! I Want to Tell You a Story. It’s about a wombat that tells a story to a tiger to avoid being eaten. I like it because it’s really about the power of story. Stories can make you forget that you’re hungry or tired. They console us when we’re sad. Our stories are what make us who we are, as individuals, as institutions and as a society in general. It’s what connects us to each other. They’re how we learn. Basic and powerful.” – Jane Corry, OLA President 2015-2016

At this point the program does not have to be fully organized; you can give us a general idea of the program and speakers (if known), and fill in the other details on the proposal form. This year we are encouraging you to submit your ideas directly — no OLA Unit sponsorship is required. We also welcome proposals from OLA units. Sessions may be presentations, panels, or workshops. If your session idea does have any associated costs, it will still need a sponsoring unit.
Proposals are due by September 30.
