School/Academic Librarian Collaboration Scholarship
About: ACRL-OR seeks to foster collaboration between academic librarians and school librarians. The role of school librarians is vitally important and is in many ways interrelated with the work of academic librarians and the students we all serve. Up to $1,000 is available per year for this scholarship. Applications will be reviewed at two points during the year or until funds are depleted.
Uses: The funding covers any collaboration between at least one school librarian and at least one academic librarian. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Sponsorship to attend, exhibit, or present at a relevant conference (i.e., OASL, regional conferences) with the exception of the ACRL-OR/WA Fall Conference (see the Fall Conference Scholarship instead);
- Creation of programming, such as a workshop, conference, or pre-conference;
- Work on a collaborative research project;
- Something we haven’t listed!
Eligibility: All Oregon academic and school librarians are eligible to apply. At least one applicant needs to work at an Oregon library. Preference will be given to teams that include an ACRL-OR member in good standing. Preference will also be given to applicants who have not previously received this award. Applications should demonstrate meaningful collaboration between school and academic librarians and have the potential to influence information literacy education in Oregon.
How to apply: Click here for the scholarship application. Applications are considered every fall, with a second round consideration if funds are available. Latest information about scholarship deadlines will be posted to the ACRL-OR News page.
Fall Conference Scholarship
About: ACRL-OR awards (at least) two scholarships annually to the ACRL Washington and Oregon Joint Fall Conference.
Uses: The scholarship covers the registration fee of $155 for the conference, which includes room and board.
Eligibility: The scholarship is designed for those who live and/or work in Oregon (see ACRL-WA for their conference scholarship) and for those who have not previously received this award. Applicants should meet at least one of the following criteria, with points awarded for each criteria met:
- First-time attendee of the joint conference (2 points).
- ACRL-OR member (2 points).
- MLIS student in an ALA-accredited program who lives in Oregon (1 point).
- Paraprofessional employee in an Oregon academic library (1 point)
- Part-time or temporary employee in an Oregon academic library (1 point).
Additional consideration will be given to essays that discuss a financial need, interest in the conference theme/program, and/or plans to apply knowledge gained at the conference.
Professional Development Scholarship
About: This scholarship was established in 2016 to help offset the expenses of attending professional development events, either in person or online. Up to three $250 scholarships will be awarded annually at three points throughout the year.
Uses: The Professional Development Scholarship may be used toward conferences, workshops, courses, seminars, or other learning opportunities (including e-learning opportunities) appropriate to the applicant with the exception of the ACRL-OR/WA Fall Conference (see the Fall Conference Scholarship instead). The funding priority is registration and transportation costs incurred by the applicant.
Eligibility: All ACRL-OR members in good standing are eligible for this award. Preference is given to those who have not previously received this scholarship. For more information about how applications are evaluated, please review our FAQs page.
