Legislative Representative Position Description
Requirements: Must be a member of OLA/Academic Division (ACRL-Oregon).
Term: Serves a 2 year term, appointed in odd years.
Duties
- Facilitates knowledge of and involvement in local, state, and federal public policy issues for the ACRL-OR Board and its membership.
- Serves as an ex-officio member of the OLA Library Development and Legislative Committee.
- Liaison to ACRL National Legislative Network.
- Monitors OLA’s Legislative Agenda.
- Monitors ACRL National’s Legislation & Policy (formerly Washington Watch).
- Represents academic librarians at ALA Legislative Day as part of the Oregon contingent.
- Distributes notices to ACRL-OR membership, via the Chapter’s email list and/or blog, regarding legislative issues affecting college and research libraries and higher education generally.
- Advises ACRL-OR Board on legislative issues.
- Provides an annual report to the ACRL-Oregon President.
- Optional: Concurrently or subsequently, the Legislative Representative may wish to apply to be an ACRL Legislative Advocate.
