Student Engagement & Community Outreach Librarian Position Opening

Oregon State University Libraries & Press (OSUL&P) invites applications for the position of Student Engagement & Community Outreach Librarian, a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, tenure track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level.  The successful candidate will support the Oregon State University Student Engagement Initiative, and will be essential to the development of several OSUL&P strategic initiatives related to student retention and academic success.

We are looking for an energetic, forward-thinking colleague interested in developing and implementing programs and initiatives aimed at improving undergraduate student success at the university.  Strong interpersonal skills are essential: the successful candidate will be a strong advocate for underserved student populations. Working independently and collaboratively with OSUL&P colleagues, the Student Engagement & Community Outreach Librarian will work directly with student groups, and will seek out and build relationships with student-centered units and programs across campus, especially those supporting traditionally underserved populations.  He or she will work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues in the Teaching and Engagement department to support the Libraries’ instruction program and to develop innovative new teaching initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with campus units serving targeted student populations and developing programs and tools that support student retention and success.
  • Collaborating with campus partners to support campus-wide teaching and learning initiatives.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of OSU Libraries’ instruction program.
  • Provide reference service in person and online.
  • Provide information literacy instruction in the classroom, at the point of need, and online.
  • Serve on campus committees related to student engagement and academic success.
  • Participate in shared governance of the Teaching & Engagement Department.

This is a tenure-track position. The successful candidate will actively participate in research, contribute to the university’s teaching mission, and engage in professional service.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience advocating for or serving underserved populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop effective collaborative relationships.
  • Demonstrated presentation skills, relevant to a classroom or workshop setting.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience planning or managing workshops, events or programs.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity
  • Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program or a foreign equivalent degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience supporting student success initiatives or programs.
    • Demonstrated teaching experience in the classroom or online.
    • Demonstrated experience using technology in the teaching environment.
    • Familiarity with college student development theory.
    • Experience working or volunteering in a library.
    • Demonstrated research and writing experience (including, but not limited to: white papers, project reports, published articles or a thesis).

The salary for this position is set at $50,000 per year, in addition to a generous vacation and benefits package.
