South Willamette Valley Librarians invited to “SWiVL”

On July 27 thirteen librarians from all walks of life gathered in a Eugene Brewery and formed “SWiVL: Southern Willamette Valley Librarians.” SWiVL is intended to be a regular, informal gathering of librarians from all types of libraries as an opportunity to meet, network, and of course eat and drink. This foundational gathering achieved all those purposes, as appetizers and libations were enjoyed, business cards and emails were exchanged, and conversation flowed freely. Academic librarians were the largest contingent, but librarians from school, special, and public libraries were also present and joined by a library consortia administrator and a library school instructor. People came from as far as Sweet home, Albany, and Creswell. Truly a diverse group. SWiVL plans to meet monthly on the fourth Thursday, alternating between a lunch time and a “happy hour” time slot at various locations.

If you identify as a librarian in the Southern Willamette Valley, you are invited to join SWiVL whenever you can. Announcements of place and time will be made on Libs-OR and other lists, and on the SWiVL Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/SWiVLibrarians or by searching for SWiVLibrarians. Questions or suggestions can be posted to the Facebook page or directed to Steve Silver, library director at Northwest Christian University: ssilver@nwcu.edu, 541-684-7237.
