News from PCC- Torie Scott to Mexico!

One of our colleagues here at Portland Community College, Torie Scott, has arranged her schedule so that she has several months off. She and her family have temporarily moved to Guanajuato, Mexico, where she is (we hope) leading the good life. Her son, who was in a language immersion school in Portland, is going to be enrolled in a Mexican school. He is about 10, and his Spanish is pretty good already (he can read ‘Gracias a Winn-Dixie’ by Kate Camillo).

Alan Cordle is filling in for her at Cascade Campus, and two part-timers have ramped up hours.

Tony Greiner (aka ‘me) was awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities seminar for Community College faculty. He will be going to Jackson Mississippi and Memphis Tennesse this summer to study the ‘Freedom Summer’ in Mississippi and the Memphis sanitation workers strike of 1968.  Voluntarily going to Mississippi in the summer shows either a passion for the topic, or mental imbalance. I’ll let you decide which.  Tony
