Chair – 1 year term as chair / 1 year term as past chair

It is preferable the Chair position alternate from year to year between university/college, two year college, and K-12 representation.

The current Chair – Robert Monge is from a university/college. We encourage nominations for chair to be from a two year college or K-12 institution.

Position descriptions:

Chair organizes the fall meeting and relevant board meetings throughout the year.  The chair coordinates with the working groups throughout the year. The Chair will work as needed with outside groups in the articulation of information literacy. The chair coordinates financial responsibilities with the board.

Vice-Chair/Chair Elect assumes the office of Chair after one year as Vice Chair. The vice-chair assists the Chair; becomes familiar with the on-going conversation around IL in Oregon; facilitates the Oregon IL conversation and IL articulation among ILAGO members; attends meetings and chairs meetings in the absence of the Chair.

K-12 Representative represents the information literacy interests of the K-12 community.  Representatives will participate in board meetings when possible and provide feedback, commentary, and vote on ongoing issues presented by the board.  K-12 representatives are encouraged but not required to attend the fall meeting, Spring Summit, and participate in workgroups as their schedule allows.

College/University Representative represents the information literacy interests of the college/university and will participate in board meetings when possible and feedback, commentary, and vote on ongoing issues presented by the board. In addition to the sessions listed on the ILAGO site, we will also be joined by Terri Kuechle, middle-school librarian from the Beaverton School District. Terri has done extensive work building Beaverton’s sophisticated information literacy model and infrastructure and we are thrilled that she will be sharing her work at the Summit.

Immersion Program

Process and Timeline

Nominations are being accepted online only at: ttps://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SDLAC2012.

The deadline for nominations is Friday, May 11, 2012, 5:00 pm.

Once confirmed, the slate of nominees will be presented by the State Library staff to the LSTA Advisory Council at their May 18, 2012 meeting. Appointees will be notified by the State Library as soon as possible after the LSTA Advisory Council meeting.

Expectations

In making appointments, the LSTA Advisory Council will seek representatives with experience in database licensing and with the use and/or selection of databases.

Involvement in SDLAC will include representing your constituent group by attending meetings, participating on a listserv, participating in the database vendor selection process, and providing feedback on the success of the statewide database licensing program.

The Statewide Database Licensing Advisory Committee is required to meet once a year. Currently the committee meets nearly every quarter. Once the RFP process begins in about a year, members will likely meet more often. Attendance can be in person in Salem or via teleconference. Participation is voluntary and reimbursements cannot be made for travel, parking, or substitute staff.

• One representative from the LSTA Advisory Council;
• Three public library representatives, one each from libraries serving populations over 100,000, between 25,000-100,000, and 25,000 or less;
• Three academic library representatives, one each from a community college, Oregon University System, and private academic institution;
• One representative from a resource sharing system;
• One representative from a tribal library and,
• Two school library representatives drawn from OASL (formerly OEMA) membership.

This renovation and re-imagining of the Library is a result of the University’s successful RISE campaign, and of much dreaming and planning. The renovation will bring the facility into the 21st century with the concept of the library as the campus learning commons, including innovative study spaces, 24/7 access, and an expanded Media Lab. The renovated library will welcome visitors with a new entrance plaza on the campus quad, and will be LEED certified and seismically upgraded. Emily Ford recently started as Assistant Professor and Urban and Public Affairs Librarian, a position she held in the interim for several months.

This spring, the library has a few new exhibits, both online and in the library building. The new digital exhibits are “Highlights from the Gates Collection of African American History and Culture” and “From the University Archives: The Vanport Extension Center 1946-48.”

The spring exhibit in the library, “The Gift of the Word: An Exhibition of Recent Acquisitions to PSU Library Special Collections,” celebrates the legacy of Gordon Hunter. His love of books and his passion for history inspired him to make a gift to the Library’s Special Collections through the Oregon Community Foundation that each year helps the Library acquire new rare and significant books and manuscripts to support the teaching and research at Portland State University. This exhibit, researched, curated and designed by PSU students and faculty, represents the active engagement and learning at the heart of Portland State.

This exhibit even has its own contest for students.
